William Hewitt Sackett, boot maker of Shoreditch, Middlesex, son of John Richard Sackett and Catherine Hewitt, was born in ShoreditchG on 27 February 18511,2 and baptized at St John the Baptist Church, ShoreditchG, on 15 May 1853.2 He died aged 45 at home at 74 Seven Sisters Road, Holloway, LondonG, on 21 November 18963 and was buried at Islington Cemetery, LondonG, on 26 November 1896.4 He married at St John's Church, ShoreditchG, on 28 January 1871, Sarah Reynolds.5,6 She was born in Hackney, MiddlesexG, in about 1852.7 After William's death, Sarah married at St Mary's Church, Islington, MiddlesexG, on 19 April 1900, William Edward Oakley Blanchard.8
     In 1851 William was living at 14 Ashford Street, ShoreditchG, and was recorded in the census as William Sackett, aged one month, born in Shoreditch, the son of John Sackett.9
     In 1861 he was living at 10 Herbert Street, Tower Hamlets, ShoreditchG, and was recorded as William Sackett, a scholar, aged 10, born in Shoreditch, the son of John Richard Sackett.10
     In 1871 he was living at 2 Fellows Street, St Leonard's, ShoreditchG, and was recorded as William Sackett, a bootmaker, head of household, married, aged 20, and born in Shoreditch. Living with him was his wife Sarah, aged 19, and born in Hackney.7
     William was listed on the electoral roll in 1873 and 1875, living at 2 Fellows Street, HackneyG.11 In 1877 he was living at 48 Mansfield Street, HackneyG,12 and from 1880 at 88 Mansfield StreetG.13
     In 1891 he was living at 137 Hoxton Street, ShoreditchG, and was recorded as William H Sackett, a boot maker (an employer), head of household, married, aged 40, and born in Shoreditch. Living with him were his wife Sarah, aged 39, and born in Clerkenwell, London, and their children, Rowland, 18, Harry, 11, and William, aged nine. Also in the household was a 15-year-old female general servant.14
     William's will, made in Holloway, MiddlesexG, was proved at the Principal Registry, London, on 1 January 1897. His widow Sarah was the executor. The value of his personal estate was £892.15
     William's widow Sarah was listed on the electoral register from 1899 to 1905, living at 74 Seven Sisters road, Islington, LondonG.16
     In 1911 William's widow was living at 67 Junction Road, Holloway, Islington, LondonG, and was recorded in the census as Sarah Blanchard, of independent means, head of household, a widow aged 59 and born in Clerkenwell. Living with her was her married son William, 30, and her granddaughter Eugenie, aged four.17
