John Sackett, shipwright of Bermondsey, Surrey, son of John Sackett and Catherine Andrews, was born in St Peter in Thanet, KentG, on 11 January 1782 and baptized there on 27 January 1782.2 He died aged 683 and was buried at St James' Church, BermondseyG, on 5 January 1851.4 He married in about 1803, Louisa ___. Louisa was born in West Ham, EssexG, in about 1784.5 She died aged 68 in BermondseyG,6 and was buried at St James' Church, BermondseyG, on 10 October 1852.7
John was apprenticed as a shipwright to his father's cousin Henry Sackett of London on 25 February 1796. He was admitted to the Shipwright's Company on 28 April 1809.8,9
John was named as a beneficiary in his father's will made in St Peter in Thanet, KentG, on 26 April 1823. He was to receive £30 and a loan of £20 was waived.10
In 1841 John was living at Salisbury Lane, St Mary Magdalen, Bermondsey, SurreyG, and was recorded in the census as John Sackett, a shipwright, aged 59, born not in Surrey. The other members of his household were his wife Louisa, aged 57, also born outside Surrey, and his son Eli, aged 17.11
In 1851 John's widow Louisa was living at 6 Perseverance Court, Bermondsey, SurreyG, and was recorded in the census as Laura [sic] Sackett, a widow aged 67 and born in West Ham, Middlesex, the mother of Vincent Sackett.12
