Jacob R Sackett, hotelier, son of Joseph Larue Sackett and Phebe Rhodes, was born in Wrightstown, Bucks County, PennsylvaniaG, in about 1823.1 He died aged about 53 in Philadelphia, PennsylvaniaG, on 12 February 1876 and was buried at the William Penn Cemetery, PhiladelphiaG, on 16 February 1876.2,3,4 He married Ann Eliza Brittin, daughter of John Brittin and Rachel Butterworth.5 Ann was born in Wrightstown, Bucks County, PennsylvaniaG, in about 1821.5,6 She died in PhiladelphiaG on 26 June 1873 and was buried at the William Penn CemeteryG on 29 June 1873.7
     In 1850 Jacob was living in Byberry, Philadelphia CountyG, and was recorded in the census as Jacob R Sackett, a tavern keeper, aged 27 and born in Pennsylvania. Living with him were his wife Ann, 29, and their children, Sarah, 7, Francinella, 5, Joseph, 2, and Winfield, aged seven months.8
     In 1860 he was living in PhiladelphiaG and was recorded as Jacob R Sacket, a hotel keeper, aged 37. Living with him were his wife Annie, 39, and their children, Sarah, 17, Fraxanilla, 15, Joseph, 13, Winfield, 10, La Fayette, 7, and Annie, 2. Also in the household were a male bartender and a cabinet maker, perhaps a hotel guest.9
     Jacob registered for the Civil War draft in PennsylvaniaG in 1863. He was an innkeeper of Fox Chase, aged 40 and born in Bucks County.10 He served the Union as a Captain in the 1st Regiment, New Jersey Cavalry, during the American Civil War.3,11
     Jacob was listed in the Philadelphia City Directory from 1865 as a hotel proprietor at Frankford Avenue. From 1872 he was listed as a liquor merchant.12
     In 1870 he was living in PhiladelphiaG and was recorded as Jacob R Sacket, aged 47. Living with him were his wife Anna, 47, and their children, Joseph, 23, Lafayette, 20, and Annie, aged twelve. There were seven others in the household, presumably hotel guests.13
