Jesse Sackett, son of Jonathan Sacket and Hannah Phelps, was born in Kent, Litchfield County, ConnecticutG, on 25 May 1769.1,2 He died aged 90 in New Orleans, Orleans Parish, LouisianaG, on 1 August 1859 while visiting his daughter Sarah and son-in-law Horace Blakesley.3 He is commemorated on gravestones at Indian Mound Cemetery, Moravia, Cayuga County, New York StateG, "Jess Sackett, 1769–1861",4 and at Greenwood Cemetery, New OrleansG, "Jessee Sackett, died July 31, 1859, aged 92 years."4 Based on the ages of his children and the age of his known wife Elizabeth, Jesse is assumed to have married first in say 1798, although a record has not been found. The supposed first wife would have been the mother of his two oldest children. He married in say 1810, probably as his second wife, Elizabeth ___.5 Elizabeth was born in 1785.4 She died aged about 60 in 1845 and was buried at Indian Mound CemeteryG.4
Jesse was named as a beneficiary in his grandmother Anne Filer's will made in Litchfield County, ConnecticutG, in June 1783.
Jesse was listed in the 1800 census as a householder in Hillsdale, Columbia County, New York StateG.6 In 1810 he was a householder in Catskill, Greene County, New York StateG.7 In 1820 he was a householder in Aurelius, Cayuga CountyG.8 In 1830 he was a householder in Brutus, Cayuga CountyG.9 In 1840 he was a householder in Moravia, Cayuga CountyG.10
In 1850 Jesse was living in MoraviaG in the household of his daughter Harriet King and son-in-law Beriah King, and was recorded in the census as Jesse Sacket, aged 82 and born in Connecticut.11
In 1855 he was living in MoraviaG in the household of his daughter Harriet and son-in-law Beriah King, and was recorded as Jesse Sackett, a widower aged 87.12
