Clara Cookman, greengrocer, of Pimlico, London, daughter of Samuel Cookman and Eliza ___, was born in St George Hanover Square, Middlesex^G, in 1842.¹ She died there aged 68 in 1910² and was buried at Norwood Cemetery (South Metropolitan Cemetery), Lambeth, London^G, on 10 November 1910.⁵ She married at St Saviour's Church, Chelsea, London^G, on 9 February 1864, Nathaniel Francis Trevelyan Haysom, son of Joseph Haysom and Louisa Wood.^3,4
     In 1851 she was living at 26 Queen Street, St George Hanover Square, Middlesex^G, in the household of her parents Samuel and Eliza, and was recorded as Clara Cookman, a scholar, aged seven and born in Pimlico, Middlesex.⁶
     In 1891 she was living at 10 Pimlico Road, St George Hanover Square, London^G, in the household of her husband Nathaniel, a mason, and was recorded as Clara Hayson, a greengrocer, aged 49 and born in London.⁷
     In 1901 she was living at 10 Pimlico Road, St George Hanover Square^G, and was recorded as Clara Haysom, a greengrocer (self-employed), head of household, a widow, aged 58 and born in St George Hanover Square, London. Living with her were her unmarried daughter, Julia, 27, and sons, Harry, 19, and Frederic, 12. There were four other unrelated adult occupants, presumably lodgers.⁸

Samuel Cookman, carpenter, of London, son of Giles Cookman and Hannah Samells, was born in Salisbury, Wiltshire^G, in 1804¹ and baptized at St Martin's Church, Salisbury, Wiltshire^G, on 30 December 1804.² He died aged 81 at 10 Pimlico Road, St George Hanover Square^G, on 11 October 1885.^3,4 He married about 1830, probably in Wilton, Wiltshire^G, Eliza ___.⁵
     In 1841 Samuel was living at Tufton Street, St John, Westminster, Middlesex^G, and was recorded in the census as Samuel Cookman, a carpenter, aged 36 and born not in Middlesex. Living with him were his wife Eliza, 33, and children, Henry, 6, Alfred, 4, Eliza, 3, and Rosinea, aged six months.⁶
     In 1851 he was living at 26 Queen Street, St George Hanover Square, Middlesex^G, and was recorded as Samuel Cookman, a greengrocer, head of household, aged 47 and born in Salisbury, Wiltshire. Living with him were his wife Eliza, 45, and their children, Emma, 18, Henry, 16, Alfred, 14, Eliza, 12, Rosina, 9, Clara, 7, Julia, 5, Samuel, 3, and John, aged one.⁷
     In 1871 he was living at 26 Queen Street, St George Hanover Square^G, and was recorded as Samuel Cookman, a carpenter, head of household, married, aged 63 and born in Salisbury, Wiltshire. Living with him were his wife Eliza, 60, and unmarried children, Alfred, 34, a stone mason, and Julia, 26, a dressmaker.⁸
     Samuel made a will which was proved at the Principal Registry, London^G, on 19 October 1885 by his son Henry Cookman, a carpenter of 59 Castle Street, Southwark, and his son-in-law Nathaniel, a mason of 10 Pimlico Road, the joint executors. The value of his personal estate was £520.⁴
