80th birthday
Mrs. Wimberly Enters the Eighties
The number of birthday celebrations recently of residents who have attained the age of eighty years or more, silently and eloquently testify to the health-giving ozone of our beautiful city by the sea. Sunday registered the devotion of a daughter Mrs. Florence Towner, 833 Cedar avenue, who decked her home and invited guests to help make merry, in honor of her mother's eightieth birthday anniversary. Mrs. Leah Wimberly reviews the years with pleasure and satisfaction, having borne sorrows with fortitude, and shared her joys with a large circle of friends, and in the lengthening shadows of her life cheering the burden bearers with kindly encouragement and giving to the youth of her acquaintance wise counsels.
Guests enjoying the pleasures, including a cafeteria dinner were J. W. and T. N. Wimberly of Nebraska, Mrs. J. W. and Howard Wimberly of Pomona, Mr. and Mrs. M. Wimberly and family, Clem Towner and the hostess of this city.

Obituary
Anna Peek, State Pioneer, Phoenix Developer, Dies
Anna R. Peek, who came to Phoenix with her husband and three children by horse-drawn wagon in 1887, died at 4 p. m. yesterday at the age of 94 years.
She and the late George W. Peek journeyed from Lawrence, Kan., that year to a community near Tucson, where an uncle owned a big ranch. When Indians went on the warpath, Mrs. Peek insisted her brood be moved to a safer place—Phoenix.
In the Phoenix of 1887, Washington street took up but a few blocks. Two children—the other died in 1888—attended the first adobe school here. Mr. Peek helped build the old city hall where the Fox Theater now stands.
Until he died in 1931, he was with the old city water works.
Mrs. Peek was the last living charter member of Central Christian Church. She was one of the first to attend the Pioneers Reunion. At her death, she was living in the house at 922 East Van Buren street that Mr. Peek built in 1889.
She was born April 24, 1848, in Plainsville, Ind. She married Mr. Peek February 20, 1870, at Shelbyville, Ill.
Surviving are her daughter Mrs. H. C. Sparks, and her son, W. E. Peek, both of Phoenix.
