MotherMarion E Wright (c 1805-1872)
Charles E Sackett, a farmer and later a Union Pacific Railroad employee, son of Salmon/Solomon Dunham Sackett and Marion E Wright, was born in Ashland County, OhioG, in about 1835.1,2 He died aged about 77 on 30 September 19123 and was buried at Fairview Cemetery, Council Bluffs, Pottawattamie County, IowaG.4 Based on the 1870 census, Charles may have married first in about 1862, Hliata J ___, and had a daughter, Jennie J. If so, his wife probably died soon after 1870. The child Jennie was living with Charles's father Solomon in 1880. Hliata was born in OhioG in about 1838.1 No other record of her has been found. Charles married in Prairie City, McDonough County, IllinoisG, on 18 June 1874, Marietta Jane Johnson.5,6 Marietta was born in OhioG in 1850.1,4 She died aged about 78 on 26 July 1928 and was buried at Fairview Cemetery, Council BluffsG.7
In 1850 Charles was living in Ruggles, Ashland County, OhioG, in the household of his parents Solomon and Marion, and was recorded in the census as Charles Sackett, aged 15 and born in Ohio.8
In 1860 he was living in Bushnell, McDonough County, IllinoisG, in the household of D M Wycoff, 45, a merchant, and was recorded as Charles Sacket, a farm laborer, aged 23.9

In 1870 he was living in Prairie CityG and was recorded as Chas E Sackett, a farmer, aged 35. Living with him were Salmon I Sackett, 67, and Elvia M Sackett, 64, taken to be his parents, and Hliata J Sackett, 32, and Jennie J Sackett, aged seven. The 1870 census did not record family relationships but it would seem likely that Hliata and Jennie were his wife and daughter.11
In 1880 he was living in Hardin, Pottawattamie County, IowaG, and was recorded as C Sackett, a farmer, head of household, aged 45. Living with him were his wife Marietta, 32, and their children, Clara, 5, and Salmon, aged two.12
