Joseph Hunting Sackett, merchant of Danville, Vermilion County, Illinois, son of Isaac H Sackett and Anna Harding, was born in Dutchess County, New York StateG, on 29 May 1860.1,2 He died aged 79 in DanvilleG on 3 July 1939 and was buried at Roselawn Cemetery, Champaign, IllinoisG, on 6 July 1939.3 He married in ChampaignG on 23 April 1885, Idella Dillavou, daughter of Jacob Dillavou and Catharine Day.4,5 Idella was born in IllinoisG in 1867.6,1 She died aged about 84 in 1951 and was buried at Roselawn CemeteryG.7
In 1865 Joseph was living in Stanford, Dutchess CountyG, in the household of his parents Isaac and Ann, and was recorded in the census as Joseph H Sackett, aged seven and born in Dutchess County.8
In 1875 he was living in Stanford, Dutchess CountyG, in the household of his uncle Phineas Sackett, and was recorded as Joseph Sackett, aged 14.9
In 1880 he was living at Stanford, Dutchess County, New York StateG, in the household of his cousin Mary (Sackett) Wilbur, and was recorded as Joseph Sackett, a farm worker, aged 21.10
Joseph was listed from 1910 until his death in 1939 in the Danville City Directory as a dealer in secondhand goods and furniture. He had premises, presumably a shop, on East Main Street. His widow Idella was listed in Danville until her death in 1951.11
In 1910 Joseph was living at Lagon Avenue, Danville, Vermilion County, IllinoisG, and was recorded in the census as Joseph H Sackett, a self-employed retailer, head of household, aged 48. He rented his home. Living with him were his wife Idella, 43, and their children, Artemus, 24, Fred, 15, and Edna, aged eleven. There was also a female boarder in the household.12
In 1920 he was living at Oak Street, DanvilleG, and was recorded as Joseph Sackett, manager of a secondhand goods business, head of household, aged 58. Living with him were his wife Idella, 52, and their children, Fred, 24, and Edna, aged 20.13
In 1930 he was living at Kentucky Avenue, DanvilleG, and was recorded as Joseph H Sackett, secondhand store proprietor, head of household, aged 69. He owned his home. Living with him were his wife Idella, 63, and their son Fred, 35.14
