William Henry Sackett, son of Delaney Sackett and Charlotte Ann Phelps, was born in Dearborn County, IndianaG, on 14 November 1845.1 He died aged 34 in Cloverdale, Putnam County, IndianaG, on 1 June 1880 and was buried at Cloverdale CemeteryG.2 He married in Putnam County, IndianaG, on 4 December 1870, Emma Adaline Branneman, daughter of Jacob Branneman and Anna Elizabeth Stillinger.3,4 Emma was born in IndianaG on 1 April 1853.5 She died aged 94 in Hammond, Lake County, IndianaG, on 3 August 1947 and was buried at Cloverdale CemeteryG.2
     In 1850 William was living in Logan, Dearborn County, IndianaG, in the household of his mother Charlotte and (assumed) stepfather Elijah Sacket, and was recorded in the census as William H Sacket, aged five and born in Indiana.6
     In 1860 he was living in Washington, Decatur County, IndianaG, in the household of his mother Charlotte, and was recorded as William H Sacket, aged 15.7
     William served the Union as a Private in the 11th Regiment, Indiana Infantry, in the American Civil War. He enlisted at Indianapolis on 31 August 1861 and was discharged at Baltimore, Maryland, on 26 July 1865.8,9,10
     In 1880 he was living in Cloverdale, IndianaG, and was recorded as William H Sackett, a farmer, head of household, married, aged 34 and born in Indiana. Living with him were his wife Emma, 27, and their children, Samuel, 8, Ida, 6, Homer, 5, Leroy, 3, and Becca, aged one. William's widowed mother Charlotte, 56, was living with them. Also in the household was a male laborer.11
     In 1900 William's widow Emma was living in Danville, Hendricks County, IndianaG, and was recorded in the census as Emma A Sackett, head of household, a widow, aged 47 and born in Ohio. Living with her were her unmarried children, Samuel, 28, Ida, 26, Homer, 25, and Leroy, aged 23.12
