Thomas Leroy Sackett, son of Alexander T Sackett and Cornelia Clark Gilbert, was born in IndianaG on 1 November 1847.1,2 He died aged 81 in Meade County, South DakotaG, on 15 July 19293 and was buried at Bear Butte Cemetery, Sturgis, Meade CountyG.4 He married first in about 1871, Amanda Piper.5 Amanda was born in IndianaG in about 1854.2 He married second in Afton, Union County, IowaG, on 15 December 1886, Emily Gertrude Diven, known as Gertrude.6 Gertrude was born in MarylandG in July 1864.2
In 1880 Thomas was living in Seward, NebraskaG, and was recorded in the census as Thomas Sackett, a farmer, head of household, married, aged 32 and born in Indiana. Living with him were his wife Amanda, 26, their children, Orfa, 8, Bertha, 6, and Ward, aged three, and Thomas's brother Charles, 25.7
In 1900 he was living in Tamora Village, Seward County, NebraskaG, and was recorded as Thomas L Sackett, stock buyer, head of household, aged 52 and born in Indiana. He rented his home. Living with him was his second wife Gertrude, aged 35. Also in the household was a boarder, Charles Sackett, aged 40, who has not yet been identified.8
In 1910 he was living in Tamora VillageG and was recorded as Thomas Sackett, breeder of hogs and chickens, head of household, aged 62 and born in Indiana. He rented his home. Living with him were his wife Gertrude, 45, and her nieces, Edna Diven, 12, and Mildred Diven, aged ten.9
In 1920 he was living at Shepard Street, Sturgis, Meade County, South DakotaG, and was recorded as Thomas L Sackett, head of household, aged 72 and born in Indiana. Living with him was his wife Gertrude, 55.10
