Alexander Allen Sackett, a commercial traveller, son of Henry Sackett and Mary Ann Elizabeth Allen, was born in Thanet, KentG, on 11 August 1881.1 He was baptized as an adult at St Peter in ThanetG on 16 December 1910.2 He died aged 66 at home at 41 Balfour Road, Walmer, KentG, on 1 September 1947.3,4 He married first in ThanetG in 1919, Gertrude Eliza Lawrence, daughter of Thomas Lawrence and Betsy Rolfe.5,6 Gertrude was born in St Peter in ThanetG in 1888.7,8 She died aged 51 at home at Downscroft, Old Rectory Gardens, Lingston Lane, Southwich, SussexG, on 3 March 1939.4,9 As far as is known, Alexander and Gertrude did not have children. He married second in Chichester, SussexG, in 1943, Eva Lizzie (Bridger) Philpott.10 Eva was born in West Ashford, KentG, in 188411 and died aged 70 at home at 41 Balfour Road, WalmerG, on 17 August 1954.4,12
     In 1891 Alexander was living at 86 Queen Street, Ramsgate, KentG, in the household of his father Henry, and was recorded in the census as Allen A Sackett, a scholar, aged nine and born in Ramsgate.13
     In 1901 he was living at 86 Queen StreetG in the household of his father Henry, and was recorded as Alexander Allen Sackett, aged 19.14
     Alexander was a Freemason, joining the Lewises Lodge, RamsgateG, on 14 November 1906. His father was a member of the same lodge.15
     In 1911 he was living at 5 The Vale, BroadstairsG, in the household of Charles Alfred Webb and family, and was recorded as Alexander Allen Sackett, a builder and decorator's assistant, single, aged 29.16
     Alexander removed to Australia, departing London for Brisbane on 21 July 1911 on the Ophir, accompanied by his brother George who lived in Australia and had been in England on a visit.17
     In 1913 Alexander was registered on the electoral roll for Brisbane. He was a commercial traveller, living at the YMCA, Edward Street, BrisbaneG.18
     Alexander served in the British Army during the First World War. He trained as a member of the Inns of Court Officer Training Corps. He was a Second Lieutenant in the Buffs (the East Kent Regiment), then a Lieutenant in the Royal West Kent Regiment where he was the assistant military forwarding officer. He was awarded the British and Victory medals and the 1914-15 Star having seen active service overseas, including the Egyptian theatre of war in 1915.19,20,21,22
     Alexander and Gertrude were registered on the electoral roll for Glamorgan, Wales, from 1923 to 1926. They were living at 10 Westbourne Crescent, Whitchurch, GlamorganG.23
     Alexander and Gertrude visited Genoa, Italy, in 1927, departing Liverpool on the Prinses Juliana on 9 June 1927. They were then living in Ashton upon Mersey, now part of Greater Manchester.24
     Alexander proved his sister Helen's will on 6 February 1930. Her estate was valued at £1,018.25
     Alexander proved his wife Gertrude's will on 30 March 1939. Her estate was valued at £7,309.26
     At the outbreak of the Second World War in September 1939, Alexander was living in Southwick, SussexG. He was widowed, a retired commercial traveller.27
     Alexander left a will which was proved on 25 November 1947 by his widow Eva. His estate was valued at £9,328.28
     Alexander's widow Eva left a will which was proved on 16 October 1954. Her estate was valued at £8,702.29
