In 1841 John was living at Wellington Cottages, Ramsgate, KentG, in the household of his parents Richard and Hannah, and was recorded in the census as John Hogbin, aged ten and born in Kent.2
In 1851 he was living at 1½ Wellington Cottages, RamsgateG, in the household of his parents Richard and Hannah, and was recorded as John Hogbin, an apprentice tailor, aged 19 and born in Ramsgate.3
