Seth Sackett, son of Russel Sackett and Polly Brass, was born in Westfield, Hampden County, MassachusettsG, on 30 September 1831.1,2 He died there aged 50 on 17 November 1881 and was buried at Pine Hill Cemetery, WestfieldG.4,5 He married in Springfield, Hampden CountyG, on 22 November 1855, Ellen R Smith, daughter of Gilbert Smith and Hannah ___.1,3 Ellen was born in New Haven, New Haven County, ConnecticutG, on 19 February 1833.6,7 She died aged 67 on 9 May 1900 and was buried at Pine Hill Cemetery, WestfieldG.5
     In 1855 Seth was living in WestfieldG in the household of his mother Polly, 66, and was recorded in the census as Seth Sacket, a mason, aged 24.8
     Seth registered for the Civil War draft in SpringfieldG in June 1863. He was a mason, of Westfield, married, aged 32 and born in Massachusetts.9 He enlisted the following month, on 17 July 1863, serving as a Private in Company F, 32nd Regiment, Massachusetts Infantry. He was discharged on 29 June 1865.10,11
     In 1870 he was living in WestfieldG and was recorded as Sette Sackette, a whip maker, aged 38 and born in Massachusetts. Living with him were his wife Ellen, 36, and their children, Lewis, 13, Herbert, 11, and Harry, aged three. Also in the household was a 13-year-old female domestic servant.12
     In 1880 he was living in WestfieldG and was recorded as Seth Sackett, a whip maker, aged 47. Living with him were his wife Ellen, 45, and their children, Lewis, 23, Harry, 13, and Herbert, 21, with his wife Fanny, 22.13
     Seth was recorded in the Civil War pension file as an invalid on 24 July 1879. Ellen was recorded on 9 December 1881 as his widow.14
