Roland Sackett 2nd, son of Russel Sackett and Polly Brass, was born in Westfield, Hampden County, MassachusettsG, on 15 July 1827.1,2,3 He died there aged 40 on 5 February 1868 and was buried at Pine Hill Cemetery, WestfieldG.1,6,7 He married in Springfield, Hampden CountyG, on 20 October 1860, Chloe Boles Stebbins, daughter of William Stebbins and Mary ___.1,4,5 Chloe was born in Hartford, Hartford County, ConnecticutG, on 25 March 1837.3,8 She died aged 64 on 10 June 1901 and was buried at Pine Hill Cemetery, WestfieldG.6,9
In 1850 Roland was living in Cornwall, Litchfield County, ConnecticutG, in the household of William Stoddard, a farmer, and was recorded in the census as Rowland Sackett, a laborer, aged 22 and born in Massachusetts.10
In 1855 he was living in WestfieldG in the household of his mother Polly, 66, and was recorded as Roland Sacket, a whip maker, aged 28.11
In 1860 he was living in WestfieldG and was recorded as Roland Sacket, a whip maker, aged 32. Living with him were his mother Polly, 72, his sister Mercy, 44, and his nephew Samuel, aged ten, son of his recently deceased brother Lemuel. Also in the household was William Halliday, 21, a whip maker, who would have been Mercy's son.12
Roland died intestate. His wife Chloe was initially appointed administratrix of his estate but was replaced by a professional administrator following the discovery of creditors of the estate. Roland's real estate, comprising a 1¼ acre lot next to his widowed mother Polly's home lot on Prospect Hill, Westfield, was valued at $800. This was put up for auction in November 1870 and was eventually bought by Roland's brother Henry for $600, the sale being completed by April 1872. Creditors amounted to $537. This sum included $275 owing to Henry, presumably a loan to Roland.13
In 1900 Roland's widow Chloe was living at 24 Prospect Street, WestfieldG, and was recorded in the census as Chloe B Sackett, a nurse, aged 63. There was also a female servant in the household.14
Chloe died intestate. Administration of her estate was granted to her daughter Clara on 10 July 1901.13
