Thomas Sackett, a carrier, son of John Sackett and Mary Hughes, was born in St John in Thanet, KentG, on 27 February 1791 and baptized there on 27 March 1791.1 He died aged 692 and was buried at the Zion Chapel, MargateG, on 7 August 1860.3 He married at St John in ThanetG on 7 October 1819, Martha Setterfield.4 Martha was born in Minster, KentG, in about 1793.5,6 She died aged 687 and was buried at the Zion ChapelG on 6 September 1861.8
In 1841 Thomas was living at King Street, St John, Margate, KentG, and was recorded in the census as Thos Sackett, a carrier, aged 50 and born in Kent. Living with him were his wife Martha, 42, and their children, Thomas, 15, George, 14, Elizabeth, 11, Eliza, 10, and Emma, aged nine. Their other children, Edward, 8, Catherine, 6, William, 5, and Stephen, aged two, were living a few doors away in the household of Richard Fagg.9,10
In 1851 he was living at King Street, St John, MargateG, and was recorded as Thomas Sackett, a carrier, head of household, married, aged 60, and born in Margate. Living with him were his wife Martha and their children, Elizabeth, 20, Edward, 18, William, 14, Stephen, 12, and Emma, aged six.11
