Obituary
Mrs. Minnie Hunter Dead
Mrs. Minnie Hunter, widow of William Hunter of Rochester township died at Wichita hospital last Thursday evening. The funeral services were held at the M.E. church at Zenda conducted by Rev. M. E. Hickman, and the body was laid to rest at Nichols cemetery.
Mrs. Hunter, with her husband, was one of the early settlers in Kingman county and their home and influence played an important part in the development of the part of the county they lived in. It was there the Hunter children were born and grew to young manhood and womanhood. During the past several years Mrs. Hunter had been making her home at Isabel. Her son John farms the old home place.
Obituary
Minnie Sackett was born in Montgomery County, Ills., November 20, 1861, and departed this life at Wichita hospital, Wichita, Kansas, December 11, 1919, aged 59 years and 21 days.
From their home in Montgomery County, Illinois, the family moved to Bond County. of that state, where the deceased was united in marriage to William N. Hunter in 1882.
In 1884, the Hunter family came to Kansas, and settled on the home place, one mile east of Zenda.
Into this family were born eight children, all of whom are left to mourn the loss of a sainted mother; but also to cherish hallowed memories of her life, and to continue her work of helpfulness and love. The children are: Clarice, Jesse, and Charlie Hunter, of Isabel, Kansas; John Hunter, of Zenda, Kansas; Lois Hunter, of Ashland, Kansas; Mrs. Mary Corrie of Pratt, Kansas; Mrs. Mattie Weathered, of Norwich, Kansas; and Mrs. Laura Dunning, of Boston, Kansas.
The deceased is survived by three brothers: William Miller, of Tamalco, Ills; Chas. Miller, of Wichita, and Elmer Miller, of DuQuoin. Also by eight grandchildren, two nieces, Charlotte and Lillian Bronte, who for several years made their home with her; and a number of more distant relatives, as well as a large number of friends.
The husband preceded her from this life, July 16, 1904.
The deceased joined the Methodist Episcopal church in childhood, and lived a consistent member of the same until called to become a member of the Church Triumphant. The Hunter home was the preacher's home, and to the Hunter family is due very largely the planting of the church in this community. While all our hearts are saddened by the loss of such a one from our midst, yet underneath the sadness is a deep joy in the remembrance of such a life, which has left the world better for its living.
