Pearl's obituary
Mrs. Pearl B. Beth, 82, of 2704 Walker in Kansas City, Kansas, passed away Tuesday night at Providence Hospital. She was born in Fort Scott, Kansas, and had lived in Kansas City, Kansas, for 56 years. Pearl was first married to Charlie Sackett, but they divorced in 1915. She then married Joseph Beth.
     She was survived by her daughter, Mrs. Helen Schumacker, of the home; two sons, Lloyd Beth of 1814 North 77th and Earl Beth of 2826 North 77th, both of Kansas City, Kansas; a sister, Mrs. Crystal Sackett, of Garland, Kansas; two brothers, Orvil Douglas of Midland, Texas, and Elmer Douglas of Neodosia, Kansas; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
     Funeral services were held at the Porter Chapel, where friends called. Interment followed in Chapel Hill Cemetery.

     Bertha Blanche Covert, 68, of 1909 Forty-fourth street, Moline, a resident of Moline 35 years, died in her home at 3:20 Sunday morning following an illness of four months.
     Bertha Blanche Sackett was born Sept. 18, 1881, in Bourbon, Kas. She was married to Lyde Covert Feb. 3, 1904, in Fort Scott, Kas., and they moved here immediately after. She was a member of Edgewood Baptist church, Rock Island.
     She is survived by the widow [sic]; two daughters, Mrs. Oscar Anderson and Mrs. Charles McNalley, both of East Moline; four sons, Elmer of Moline, Paul of East Moline, John of Spring Valley, and Leonard of Burbank, Calif; two sisters, Mrs. Lottie Coons of Fort Scott, and Mrs. Dennis Dykes of Rock Island; seven brothers, Paul and Henry Sackett of Rock Island, Alben of Garland, Calif., and Charles, Fauntie, Clarence and Fred of Fort Scott; 22 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
     Funeral services will be held at 1:30 tomorrow afternoon in Esterdahl chapel with the Rev. Fred G. Crown officiating. Burial will be in Green View Memorial Park cemetery.

     Lyde Covert, 74, of 1909 44th St., Moline, died at 2 yesterday afternoon in his home after a lingering illness.
     Mr. Covert was a retired first boiler fireman for Iowa-Illinois Gas and Electric Co. He retired in 1945 after 27 years of service.
     Mr. Covert was born Sept. 24, 1879, in Mounds, Mo.
     He lived in Moline for 40 years.
     Mr. Covert married Bertha Sackett on Feb. 3, 1903, in Bourbon Co., Kan. He was a member of Modern Woodmen of America and the Edgewood Baptist Church of Rock Island.
     Survivors are four sons, Paul of East Moline, Elmer of Moline, John of Green Rock and Leonard of Burbank, Calif; two daughters, Mrs. Oscar Anderson and Mrs. Charles McNalley, both of East Moline; two brothers, Darius of Davenport and Leonard of Clinton, Ark; 23 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
     Mr. Covert's wife, one son, one sister and two grandchildren preceded him in death.
     The body is at Esterdahl Mortuary Moline, where the funeral will be at 1:30 Monday afternoon. The Rev. William H. Sears, pastor of Edgewood Baptist Church of Rock Island, will officiate.
     Burial will be in Greenview Memorial Park.
     Pallbearers will be Edison Davis, Horace Bailey, Floyd Drummond, Fred Anderson, Herbert Anderson and Earl Lovell.
     Friends may call at the mortuary.

Mrs. Lillie Dykes
     Mrs. Lillie Dykes, 83, 916 6th Ave., Rock Island, died at 7 last night in St. Anthony's Hospital after an extended illness.
     Lillie Sackett was born in Fort Scott, Kansas, and was married first to Lewis Ed Mulkey on June 27, 1905 in Fort Scott. He preceded her in death. She was married to Dennis Dykes on June 4, 1927 in Miami, Okla. He died on Oct. 28, just last week.
     Survivors include a son, Wilbert Wheeler Mulkey, Milan; three grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; five brothers, Fontie and Clarence Sackett of Fort Scott, Paul and Albert of Garland, Kansas, and Fred of Rock Island; and a sister, Mrs. Lottie Koons, Comptton, Calif. A daughter and a son preceded her in death.
     Arrangements are pending in the Esterdahl Mortuary, where friends may call after 7 tomorrow evening.

     Mr. Dykes died Friday at St. Anthony's Hospital, Rock Island.
     He retired in 1952 from John Deere Industrial Equipment Works. Born in Lincoln, Neb., he married Lillie Sackett Mulkey on June 4, 1927 in Miami, Okla.
     Surviving are the widow, one stepson, Wilbert Mulkey, Milan, and three stepgrandchildren.

     Oscar Starr, 828 Third avenue, Rock Island, died at St. Anthony's hospital of Rock Island late today. Death followed a lingering illness. He had resided in Rock Island for the past five years. His wife survives. He was born in Rushville, Ill., March 22, 1875.

     Esley Sterling Bowen, 52 years old, died at Mercy Hospital Saturday at noon following an illness with a complication of diseases. Mr. Bowen was a well known farmer near Garland, where he had lived for the past ten years, says the Fort Scott Tribune.
     He was born in Grant City, Mo., March 5, 1880. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Ethel Bowen, and the following children: Verdie, Earl, Raymond Ivan and Edith| Bowen, all of the home. Three brothers and three sisters also remain, W. T. Bowen, Garland; Jasper Bowen, Bronaugh, Mo; Stanley Bowen, Valley Falls, Kas; Mrs. Janey Bittick, Cabool, Mo; Stella Bry, Deerfield, and Mrs. Maude Pence, Mulberry.
     Mr. Bowen was a member of the Baptist church and belonged to the I. 0. 0. F. and was favorably known in the Garland vicinity.
     The funeral will be held Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock: at Garland. The Rev. L. G. Wood and Rev. Isaac Griffith will conduct the rites. Interment will be in the Heaviside cemetery.

William Paul Sackett, usually known as Paul, son of William Orr Sackett and Martha Ann Moody, was born in Fort Scott, Bourbon County, KansasG, on 26 July 1893.1,2,3 He died aged 93 in Aulander, Bertie County, North CarolinaG, on 23 January 19873,4,5 and was buried at Clarksburg Cemetery, Fort ScottG.2 He married in La Harpe, Allen County, KansasG, on 2 November 1916, Lillian Lorraina Payton, daughter of James L Payton and Mollie ___.3 Lillian was born in Fort ScottG in 1898.6,1,3 She died aged 68 in Garland, Bourbon CountyG, on 24 November 19666,3 and was buried at Clarksburg CemeteryG.2
     In 1900 William was living in Drywood, Bourbon County, KansasG, in the household of his parents William and Martha, and was recorded in the census as Paul Sackett, aged six and born in Kansas.7
     In 1910 he was living in DrywoodG in the household of his parents William and Martha, and was recorded as William Paul Sackett, aged 16.8
     William completed a World War I draft registration card on 5 June 1917. He was married, aged 22 [23], and gave his employment as teaming. He was living in Arcadia, Crawford County, KansasG.9
     In 1920 he was living in DrywoodG in the household of his parents William and Martha, and was recorded as Paul Sackett, a well driller, married, aged 26.10
     In 1930 he was living at 31st Street, Moline, Rock Island CountyG, and was recorded as Paul Sackett, a fireman, head of household, aged 36. He rented his home. Living with him were his wife Lillie, 32, and their children, Georgie, 10, Darold, 8, and Clifford, aged six.11
     In 1940 he was living in South Moline, Rock Island CountyG, and was recorded as Paul Sackett, foreman (or fireman?) in a power company, head of household, aged 46. He rented his home. Living with him were his wife, Lillie, 42, their children, Darold, 17, Clifford, 15, Robert, 9, William, 7, and Georgia, 20, and Georgia's husband Maynard Cook, 24.12
     William completed a World War II draft registration card on 27 April 1942. He was aged 48 and was employed by the Iowa and Illinois Electric Company. He was living at 331 Eighth Street, Rock IslandG, with his wife.13
     William was listed in the Rock IslandG City Directory from 1926 to 1955. For most of this period, he was a fireman at the Iowa-Illinois Gas and Electric Corporation.14

Thursday evening Mr. Paul Sackett of Arcadia, Kansas, and Miss Lillie Payton of our town were united in marriage by Pastor Smith. Only a few of the immediate friends were present to witness the ceremony. The newly wed couple immediately departed over the Missouri Pacific for their new home in Arcadia.

William P. Sackett, 93, Aulander, N.C., formerly of Rock Island, died Friday at a hospital in Aulander.
     Services are 10 a.m. Wednesday at Chaney Funeral Home, Fort Scott, Kan. Burial is in Fort Scott.
     Visitation is 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday.
     He was born July 26, 1893, in Fort Scott, Kan. He married Lillian Lorraina Payton Nov. 2, 1916, in LaHarpe, Kan. She died Nov. 24, 1966.
     He worked for Iowa-Illinois Gas & Electric Co., Rock Island, from 1928 until 1958, when he retired.
     Survivors include a daughter, Georgia Cook, Milan; sons, Darrold, Aulander, N.C., with whom he resided, Clifford, Milan, and Robert and William Jr., both of Moline; 11 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.

Mrs. Paul Sackett, 68, of Garland, Kan., formerly of East Moline, died at 4 yesterday morning in her home after a short illness.
     The former Lillie Pyle was born in Fort Scott, Kan., and was married to William Paul Sackett in 1916. They lived in East Moline until his retirement from Iowa-Illinois Gas and Electric Co. in 1958.
     Survivors include the widower; a daughter, Georgia in California; and four sons, Darold in North Carolina; Clifford of Fort Scott; Robert of Moline and William of East Moline.
     Services will be at 2 Monday afternoon in the Cheney Chapel, Fort Scott. Burial will be in Clarksburg Cemetery.
