One Of City's Pioneer Business Men Who Will Be Buried Tomorrow
J. L. Chase Funeral Tomorrow Morning
Head of Weaving and Belting Company Man of Wide Charity.
     The funeral of John L. Chase, one of Buffalo's foremost business men who died Wednesday at his home, 67 Lexington avenue, will be held from the house tomorrow morning at 11 o'clock and will be private. Mr. Chase was born December 27, 1844, at Middletown, Conn., where his early life was spent and where he completed his education at Wesleyan college, of which his father, a member of its graduating class, was a trustee until his death a few years ago.
     Married to Miss Virginia Sackett in 1867, Mr. Chase began his business career in Indianapolis, later removing to New York and still later to Buffalo, which had since been his home.
     Arriving in Buffalo in 1877 Mr. Chase formed a partnership under the name of Chase & Comstock in the hat and fur business at Swan and Washington streets, later removing to the Academy of Music block on Main street. In 1892 was formed the Buffalo Weaving and Belting company, of which Mr. Chase held the presidency until his death, and whose Chandler street plant has grown to immense proportions.
     Devoted to business Mr. Chase sought no public office and aside from the Masonic fraternity and the Park club had no social affiliations. He was a man of wide charity, but so quietly was it given, much of it in the name of third persons, that his benevolence was known in only a limited circle.
     Surviving Mr. Chase besides his widow are three brothers, Henry M. of New York, Daniel W. of Middletown and A. H. of Norwich, Conn., and three sisters, Mrs.Eldon Birdseye, Mrs. Emma C. Douglas and Mrs. Bingham Leach of Middletown.

Mrs. Sackett Wileman Succumbs at Ravenna
     Ravenna, Nov. 3.—Funeral services for Mrs. Helen Sackett Wileman who died Thursday at the home of her son, Dana W. Wileman, Freedom rd., were held at the Wileman home Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock, Dr. I. J. Swanson, pastor of the Congregational church officiating.
     Mrs. was born in Edinburg in 1845, daughter of King and Mary Holcomb Sackett, and was married to Daniel Wileman Dec. 20, 1866. He died in 1918.
     She leaves her sons, Claude G. Wileman of Ashtabula, and Dana Wileman of Ravenna, and a grandson, Rolla Wileman, a student at Ohio State university.
     A sister, Mrs. Louise Moulton, Beecher st., Ravenna, and a brother, Homer C. Sackett, of Geneva, are also left.

Died.
Sackett—On Tuesday morning, November 26th, after an illness of about four weeks, Addie E. Sackett, wife of F. M. Sackett, aged 42 years, 9 months and 12 days.
     Funeral services were held at the resideuce Wednesday afternoon, Rev. L. H. Stoughton officiating, and the remains were interred in Rose Hill cemetery.
     In this time of trouble and inconsolable sorrow, Mr. Sackett has the heartfelt sympathy of a host of friends.

Fitz Sackett Dead At Westfield, N. Y.
     Word was received in Albion Wednesday morning of the death of Fitz M. Sackett at the home of friends at Westfield, N. Y.
     Mr. Sackett was one of the early pioneers of Albion, coming here when the city was a mere hamlet. He was engaged in several business ventures and for some time operated a flour mill on the Beaver where the electric light power plant is now located. He also engaged in the coal business and bought and sold live stock. At one time he owned several farms in this locality.
     He is survived by two daughters, Mrs. George Waring of Akron, Ohio, and Mrs. Mason Davis of Omaha.
     The remains are being shipped to Albion for burial in Rose Hill cemetery beside his first wife.
     Just a few days ago word came to his old friends here that his health was failing. To cheer him the Masonic lodge sent him flowers and many of his old friends subscribed their names to a letter of friendship.
     Mr. Sackett was a member of the Masonic lodge and was one of the charter members of the Albion lodge when it was organized fifty years ago. The Masons will have charge of the funeral services here.

Albion Pioneer Dies in the East
     Word was received here last Wednesday that Fitz Sackett, pioneer resident of Albion had passed away at Westfield, New York.
     Mr. Sackett engaged in business in Albion for a number of years coming here when the town was in its infancy. For some time he had been living in the east. He is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Orra Mae Waring, of Akron, Ohio, and Mrs. Mason Davis, of Omaha.
     It was reported that his body was to be shipped to Albion for burial but it was finally decided that he should be laid to rest at Westfield.

Message from Albion Friends is Appreciated
     Hearing that F. M. Sackett was critically ill at Westfield, New York, Albion friends prepared and sent to Mr. Sackett a letter containing words of encouragement and cheer. The message was signed by about sixty of his old friends. Shortly after the word came that Mr. Sackett had passed away, but the first of the week a letter was received from his daughter, conveying the information that the Albion message was received and deeply appreciated by Mr. Sackett. The letter addressed to S. B. Morehead, follows:
"Westfield, New York, July 26, 1924
     "My Dear Mr. Morehead: I want to tell you and each of the others who sent greetings and wishes to my father, both at Christmas time and his last day, that he greatly appreciated your kindness and sent you his heartfelt thanks. He smiled at each name as it recalled memories of bygone days.
     "Say what we will and travel the wide world over, time nor distance cannot make us forget the old friends.
     "He was game to the last breath, knew everything, simply closed his eyes and passed out. Read the grain and stock market the last day as usual, when he could only use one hand and that but a little. Took great interest in Albion shipments, was the first thing he looked for when he got his paper. And he was concerned over the Democratic convention.
     " 'All things come that are to be' and nothing in this world stands still. Time changes everything and, 'one by one we must all file through the narrow isles of pain.' But when we see the kindly face behind the palid mask and feel the touch of the hand, Death is as welcome as his twin brother, Sleep.
     "He was pleased and touched with the carnations you sent, they came Tuesday morning. I put one white one on his coat. I thank you, each and everyone of you.
