Alfred James Sackett, son of Jabez Sackett and Sarah Anne "Annie" Young, was born in Rye, SussexG, on 16 October 18651,2 and baptized at Wesleyan Methodist Chapel, RyeG, on 21 November 1865.2 He died aged 76 of a heart attack not far from his house in Grange Road, St Peter Port, GuernseyG, on 15 January 1942 while walking to work as a nurse at the Town Hospital. It is said that the attack was brought on by a combination of the bitter cold and the shock of his being challenged by a German sentry.3,4 He was buried at the Foulon Cemetery, St Peter PortG, on 17 January 1942.9 He married first at Prestwich, LancashireG, in 1891, Millian "Millie" Davies, daughter of Horatio Davies and Mary A Robinson.5,6,7 She was born in Salford, Manchester, LancashireG, in 1872.10,11 He married second about 1894, Lydia Hatfield, daughter of John Hatfield and Sarah Jane Shaw.8 Lydia was born at 4 Providence Terrace, Gibson Street, Hull, YorkshireG, on 9 September 186812 and died aged 86 in GuernseyG on 10 October 1954.13
In 1871 Alfred was living at High Street, Hythe, KentG, in the household of his parents Jabez and Sarah, and was recorded in the census as Alfred J Sackett, aged five and born in Rye, Sussex.14
In 1881 he was living at High Street, St Leonard, Hythe, KentG, in the household of his uncle George Young, a grocer, and was recorded as Alfred Sackett, a grocer's assistant, aged 15, and born in Rye, Sussex.15
In 1891 he was living at 2 Anne Street, Cheetham, Manchester, LancashireG, and was recorded as Alf J Sackett, a commercial clerk, head of household, married, aged 25 and born in Rye. Living with him was his wife Millian, aged 19.16
In 1901 he was living at 5 Francis Terrace, Islington, LondonG, and was recorded as Alfred J Sackett, a selling agent, head of household, married, aged 35, and born in Rye, Sussex. Living with him were his wife Lydia, aged 32 and born in Hull, and their two-year-old daughter Alma.17
Alfred and Lydia Sackett moved sometime between 1901 and 1905 from London to Guernsey where Alfred's parents and siblings were already established.
In 1911 he was living at Ollivier Street, St Anne's, AlderneyG, and was recorded as Alfred James Sackett, a clerk, head of household, married, aged 45 and born in Rye, Sussex. Living with him were his wife Lydia, 41, and their children, Alma, 12, Leslie, 5, and Douglas, aged three.18
In 1921 he was living at 3 New Paris Street, St Peter Port, GuernseyG, and was recorded as Alfred James Sackett, aged 55. He was out of work at the date of the census, his last employment having been with Rowe & Mitchell, granite merchants, in Alderney. He was a visitor in the household of his sister Laura and brother-in-law Thomas Keyho.19
In 1921 Lydia, 52, married, was living at 2 Choisi Terrace, St Peter PortG, as a cook in the household of Henry Wild, medical practitioner.20

Found Dead in the Grange
We regret to hear of the death of Mr. Alfred James Sackett, of "Balure", Grange Road. Mr. Sackett suddenly collapsed and died when passing Elizabeth College at 7.30 yesterday morning being attended by Special Constable Van den Berg.
Mr. Sackett had been indisposed, but was able on Monday to resume his work as an attendant at the Town Hospital, whither he was bound when he had his fatal seizure. There will be no inquest.
The deceased was the eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. Jabez Sackett, who resided for many years at the Duvaux Farm, St. Sampson's, and was born at Rye, Sussex. He married Miss Lydia Hatfield, and there are two sons and a daughter of the marriage: Mr. Leslie Sackett, who is an officer on a tanker; Mr. D. Sackett, States Meteorological Observer; and Mrs. Vere Miles, who is on war work in England. Deceased also leaves four brothers and four sisters.
The funeral is arranged for to-morrow, to meet at the Foulon Cemetery Chapel at 2.30 p.m."

Thomas Edward Sackett, son of Jabez Sackett and Sarah Anne "Annie" Young, was born in Walkington, Beverley, YorkshireG, on 5 October 18771,2 and baptized there on 4 November 1877.3 He died aged 82 at home at Miriant, Mynytho, Pwllheli, Caernarvonshire, WalesG, on 17 January 1960.4 He married first in GuernseyG on 13 June 1901, Florence Edith Le Page, daughter of William John Le Page and Elizabeth Ann Jones. Florence was born in St Peter Port, GuernseyG, on 4 February 1877.7,2 She died aged 67 at Caerffynon, Harlech, Merionethshire, WalesG, on 22 September 1944.8,9 He married second in Manchester, LancashireG, in 1946, Winifred Davies.5,6
In 1881 Thomas was living at North Gate, Walkington, YorkshireG, and was recorded in the census as Thomas E Sackett, a scholar, aged three and born in Walkington, son of Jabez Sackett.10
In 1891 he was living at 4 Collings Road, St Peter Port, GuernseyG, in the household of his father Jabez, and was recorded as Thomas Sackett, a grocer's assistant, aged 18 [actually 13], and born in Yorkshire.11

Thomas was a lifelong local preacher in the Methodist church. His son Edgar said that his father never spoke from notes but was so well prepared that he knew exactly what he would want to say. Thomas's grandson Ralph Sackett heard his grandfather preach in a small Welsh church at Mynytho, near Pwllheli, where he retired when he remarried in 1946.20,21
Thomas proved his wife Florence's will on 11 December 1944. Her estate was valued at £1,519.22
Thomas left a will which was proved on 17 March 1960 by his widow Winifred. His estate was valued at £4,620.23

William Smith Sackett, son of Jabez Sackett and Sarah Anne "Annie" Young, was born in Walkington, Beverley, YorkshireG, on 3 January 18801,2 and baptized there on 8 February 1880.3 He died aged 85 at the Town Hospital, St Peter Port, GuernseyG, on 28 September 1965.4 He married first on 22 November 1904, Laura Catherine McKenna, daughter of Alfred McKenna and Elizabeth Ann Shaw. Laura was born in St Peter Port, GuernseyG, about 1883.6,7 She is presumed to have died before 1928. He married second at the Registrar's Office, St Peter PortG, on 10 October 1928, Gladys Jane De La Mothe, daughter of Joseph John De La Mothe and Elizabeth Jane Rice.5 Gladys had a stillborn female child born at the Oberlands, St Peter PortG, on 12 October 1928.8 Gladys was born in St Helier, JerseyG, on 23 May 1892 and died aged 78 at the Town Hospital, St Peter Port, GuernseyG, on 10 December 1970.9
In 1881 William was living at North Gate, Walkington, YorkshireG, and was recorded in the census as William S Sackett, aged one and born in Walkington, son of Jabez Sackett.10

William served in the British Army during the First World War as a Corporal in the Royal Guernsey Light Infantry and as a Company Quarter Master Sergeant in the Royal Irish Regiment. He was awarded the Victory Medal and British Medal in recognition of active service overseas. He served in France from 17 December 1915 and was awarded the 1915 Star. He was mentioned in dispatches in March 1919.14,15,16
