Samuel Lorenzo Ensign, son of Rev Reuben Ensign and Electa Sacket, was born in Boston, Erie County, New York StateG, on 18 July 1817.1 He died aged 44 in Lowell, Dodge County, WisconsinG, on 23 March 1862.1 He married in about 1847, Mary J ___.2,3 Mary was born in OhioG in about 1826.2
In 1850 Samuel was living in Lima, Rock County, WisconsinG, and was recorded in the census as Saml Ensign, a farmer, aged 33 and born in New York. Living with him were his wife Mary, 24, and their daughter Arabella, aged two. Also in the household were Samuel's parents, Reuben, 60, and Electa, 58.4
