Seth E Sackett
(c 1811-1879)
Seth E Sackett was born in MassachusettsG in about 1811.1,2 His parents have not been identified. He died aged 67 on 29 May 1879 and was buried at Old North Cemetery, Hartford, ConnecticutG.3,4 He married first in Lancaster, Worcester County, MassachusettsG, on 21 April 1833, Laura P Burditt, daughter of Deacon John Burditt Jr and Sarah C "Sally" Shute.5,6 Laura was born in Leominster, Worcester County, MassachusettsG, on 28 June 1805.7 She died aged 33 in Sturbridge, Worcester CountyG, on 9 September 1838 and was buried at the New Cemetery, SturbridgeG.8 He married second in Ellington, Tolland County, ConnecticutG, on 19 January 1845, Roxa A Chapman.9,10 Roxa was born in ConnecticutG in about 1813.1 She died aged 75 on 21 November 1887 and was buried at Old North Cemetery, HartfordG.11,12
Seth's first wife Laura was named in her father John Burditt's will made in LancasterG on 21 January 1848. He left a sum of $100 to "Francis Wayland Sackett, son of my deceased daughter Laura P Sackett."13
In 1850 Seth was living in Ellington, Tolland County, ConnecticutG, and was recorded in the census as Seth Sackett, a joiner and carpenter, aged 41 and born in Massachusetts. Living with him were his wife Roxey, 37, and their daughter Laura, aged four.14
In 1860 he was living in EllingtonG and was recorded as Seth Sackett, a conductor [the enumerator may have meant contractor], aged 46. Living with him were his wife Roxa, 45, and their children, Laura, 14, Charles, 12, and Albert, aged seven.15
In 1870 he was living in Hartford, ConnecticutG, and was recorded as Seth Sackett, a bridge builder, aged 57. Living with him were his wife Roxa, 56, their children, Laura, 23, Charles, 21, and Albert, 17, and Seth's son Francis, 34, from his first marriage.16
