Nathan B Sackett, son of Justus Sackett Jr and Clarissa Belcher, was born on 29 January 18251 and baptized at the Second Congregational Church, Greenwich, Fairfield County, ConnecticutG, on 3 July 1825.2 He married in New York CityG on 28 November 1848, Gertrude Vark Raynor, daughter of John Raynor and Eliza ___.1,3 Gertrude was born in New York StateG in about 1829.4 They divorced on 14 June 1863.5 After their divorce, Gertrude changed her surname, and those of her children, Helen and Henry, from Sackett to Raynor, the changes being certified by the New York Court of Common Pleas to take effect from 18 July 1864.6 Gertrude died aged 68 in Philadelphia, PennsylvaniaG, on 24 January 1897 and was buried at St Mark's, New York CityG.7,8
     In 1850 Nathan was living in New York CityG in the household of his parents-in-law John and Eliza Raynor, and was recorded in the census as Nathan B Sackett, a merchant, aged 25 and born in Connecticut. His wife Gertrude, 21, was living with him.9
     In 1860 he was living in New York CityG in the household of his parents-in-law John and Eliza Raynor, and was recorded as Nathan B Sackett, a hardware dealer, aged 35. Living with him were his wife Gertrude, 31, and their children, Helen, 6, and Henry, aged three. There were two female servants in the household.10
