Homer Jay Sackett, son of Clarence Lee Sackett and Agnes Davis, was born in Clemons, Marshall County, IowaG, on 6 June 1921.1 He died aged 78 in Rancho Cordova, Sacramento County, CaliforniaG, on 15 December 1999.2,3 He married Rosa Mae Atkins, daughter of Henry Peter Atkins and Pauline E Richter.4 Rosa was born in North DakotaG on 24 April 1918.4 She died aged 87 in Sedalia, Pettis County, MissouriG, on 30 November 2005.4,5
     In 1930 Homer was living in Nevada, Story County, IowaG, in the household of his uncle Edward Ross, and was recorded in the census as Homer Sackett, aged eight and born in Iowa.6
     Homer served in the US Navy as a Motor Machinist's Mate during the Second World War, enlisting in Des Moines, IowaG, on 29 November 1939. He served on the light cruisers, USS Milwaukee and USS Raleigh, the oiler USS Pecos, and the minesweeper USS YMS-298. He was released from service in September 1945.7
     Homer completed a World War II draft registration card on 2 November 1945. He was aged 24, living in Boone, IowaG, and was unemployed, having recently been discharged from the US Navy.8
     On 19 November 1945 Homer was employed by the Chicago and North Western Railroad in Boone, IowaG, starting work the following day as a porter at Cedar Rapids.9,10
     Homer applied for and was granted a war bonus of $500 in October 1949 by the Iowa WWII Service Compensation Board.11
     Homer and Rosa were listed in the Vallejo, California, City Directory in 1950 and 1953. Homer was a welder.12 They were listed in 1964 in the Sacramento City Directory. Homer was a welder at Terminal Steel and Rosa was a sales clerk.13
