Nellie Jane Sackett, daughter of Clarence Lee Sackett and Carrie Mabel Schleinnger, was born in Nashville, Martin County, MinnesotaG, on 4 December 1923.1 She died aged 93 in Truman, Martin CountyG, on 6 August 2017 and was buried at Lakeside Cemetery, Fairmont, Martin CountyG.2 She married on 31 January 1942, Elmer Goerndt.1
     In 1930 Nellie was living in WinnebagoG in the household of her parents Clarence and Carrie, and was recorded in the census as Nellie Sacket, aged six and born in Minnesota.3

FAIRMONT—Services for Nellie Jane Goerndt, 93, of Fairmont, Minn., will be at St. John’s United Church of Christ in Fairmont. Burial will follow the service in Lakeside Cemetery, Fairmont.
Nellie passed away Sunday afternoon, Aug. 6, 2017, at Truman Senior Living in Truman, Minn.
Nellie Jane (Sackett) Goerndt was born Dec. 4, 1923, in Nashville Township, rural Martin County, Minn., the daughter of Clarence and Carrie (Schleinnger) Sackett. She grew up in Winnebago, Minn., and was baptized at the First Baptist Church in Winnebago on March 31, 1937. She received her education attending the Winnebago Public School.
On Jan. 31, 1942, Nellie was united in marriage to Elmer Goerndt at her parents’ home. Together, the couple made their home on a farm in Pleasant Prairie Township where they would farm for the next 55 years and were blessed with four children:?Raymond, Carolyn, Kenneth and Eugene.
After retiring in July 2001, Nellie moved to Fairmont where she was a member of St. John’s United Church of Christ, serving on the Naomi Circle and Women’s Guild. She was also a member of the Pleasant Prairie Ladies Club and East Chain Breakfast Club in addition to chaperoning many school trips for East Chain School.
Nellie loved life on the farm and cherished the summer months when her grandchildren and great- grandchildren would come for extended visits. She also enjoyed her quiet time spent tending to her beautiful flowers that she grew on the farm.
Left to cherish her memory are her children, Carolyn Pankake and husband, Gary, of Mapleton, Minn., Kenneth Goerndt and wife, Becky, of Fairmont, Minn., Eugene Goerndt and wife, Sue, of Fairmont, Minn; grandchildren, Jerimy (Christy) Kuhns, Jon Kuhns, Tom Pankake, Tim (Cassie) Pankake, Travis (Melissa) Goerndt, Matt (Britney) Goerndt, Callie (Ben) Austin, Brady Goerndt, Carrie (Mark) Westcott, Jarrod (Sommer) Goerndt, Derek (Kaylene) Goerndt; god child, Sue Philipp; great-grandchildren, Zack Kuhns, Hailey Kuhns, Tymrie Pankake, Keegan Kuhns, Hannah Goerndt, Maia Goerndt, Tyler Goerndt, Alexa Steele, Whytnie Goerndt, Savannah Goerndt, Louis Goerndt, Taylor Austin, Alyssa Westcott, Andrea Westcott, Nolyn Goerndt, Alyvia Goerndt, Camryn Goerndt, and Mya Goerndt; great-great-grandchildren, Mason Martin, Kenlie Martin and Rylan Kuhns; many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Nellie was preceded in death by her parents, Clarence and Carrie Sackett; husband, Elmer Goerndt; son, Raymond Goerndt; sister, Mable Stauffer; as well as many in-laws.
