Susannah Ann Spain, daughter of Thomas Spain and Harriet Crow Jarman, was born in Margate, KentG, in 1823 and baptized at St John in ThanetG on 5 July 1823.1 She died aged 75 in Thanet, KentG, in 1899.2 She married in Ramsgate, KentG, on 29 September 1844, George Bailey Wetherhead.3,4,5 George was born in RamsgateG in about 1818.6 He died aged 77 in ThanetG in 1895.7
In 1841 Susannah was living at Harbour Street, Ramsgate, KentG, in the household of George Shepherd, a shoemaker, and was recorded in the census as Susannah Spain, a servant, aged 18 and born in Kent.8
In 1851 she was living at 3 Frederick Place, St Lawrence in Thanet, KentG, in the household of her husband George, 32, a tailor, and was recorded as Susannah Wetherhead, aged 27 and born in Margate. Living with them were their children, Harriet, 6, George, 4, and Caroline, aged two.9
In 1861 she was living in RamsgateG in the household of her husband George, 42, a tailor, and was recorded as Susanna A Wetherhead, a laundress, aged 38 and born in Margate. Living with them were their children, Harriet, 17, Caroline, 12, Alfred, 8, and Fanny, aged two.10
In 1871 she was living at 160 King Street, RamsgateG, in the household of her husband George, 54, a tailor, and was recorded as Susannah A Weatherhead, a laundress, aged 48 and born in Margate. Living with them were their children, Caroline, 22, and Fanny, aged 13.11
In 1881 she was living at 160 King Street, RamsgateG, in the household of her husband George, 64, a tailor, and was recorded as Susanha A Wetherhead, a laundress, aged 56 and born in Margate. Living with them was their grandson Edward Goldfinch, aged seven.12
In 1891 she was living at 18 Ratcliffe Square, RamsgateG, in the household of her husband George, 75, a tailor, and was recorded as Susannah Ann Weatherhead, a laundress, aged 67 and born in Margate. Living with them was their grandson Alfred James Moys, aged 12.13
