Stephen Sackett Chancellor, baker, son of Stephen Sackett Chancellor and Louisa Bartlett, was born in Margate, KentG, in 1851.1 He married in St Peter's Church, Islington, MiddlesexG, on 9 October 1888, Martha Philpott, daughter of John Philpott.2
In 1871 Stephen was living at 7 King Street, MargateG, in the household of his widowed father Stephen, and was recorded in the census as Stephen S Chancellor, a draper, aged 19 and born in Margate.3
In 1881 he was living at 7 King Street, MargateG, and was recorded as Stephen S Chancellor, a baker, unmarried, aged 29 and born in Margate. Also in the household were a journeyman baker, two female baker shop assistants, and a female general servant.4
In 1891 he was living at 7 King Street, MargateG, and was recorded as Stephen S Chancellor, a baker and pastry cook, an employer, head of household, married, aged 39 and born in Margate. Living with him were his wife Martha, 33, and their one-year-old son Stephen. Also in the household were a journeyman baker, a female shop assistant, and two female domestic servants.5
