Ex Sackett, son of Gilbert Sackett and Sabra Jane Cook, was born in MichiganG in about 1858.1
This man was listed in the book Ancestors and Descendants of Frederick Plummer Sackett as X. Sackett. Few records have been found. None suggests a more conventional alternative name and it would seem that he was indeed named X (or Ex). The record of him as Alex in the 1870 census (if, as is assumed, this was him) was probably the enumerator's interpretation of the name. No other matching record of an Alex Sackett has been found.
Ex's family were enumerated twice in the 1860 census, first on 15 June in Bergen, New York, and then on 16 July in Adams, Michigan. On 15 June 1860 Ex was living in Bergen and was recorded in the census as E ? Sackett, aged two and born in Michigan. He was living with his parents Gilbert and Sabra in the household of Gilbert's parents Charles and Saloma Sackett. On 16 July 1860 he was living in Adams, Hillsdale County, Michigan in the household of her parents Gilbert and Jane, and was recorded as X? Sackett, aged two and born in Michigan.2,3
In 1870 he was living in BergenG in the household of his cousin Sarah Elizabeth Sackett and her husband Jerome Feezlear, and was recorded as Alex Sackett, aged twelve and born in Michigan.4
In 1880 he was living in Vevay, Ingham County, MichiganG, and was recorded as Ex Sackett, a farm laborer, aged 22. He was a boarder in the household of Allen Hathaway, a farmer.5
