Harry Leonard Sackett, marine engineer, son of Edward Gaskell Sackett and Alice Horsburgh, was born in NottinghamG on 7 April 1884.1,2 He died aged 51 at the Queen Alexandra Sanitorium, London, Middlesex County, Ontario, CanadaG, on 11 November 1935 and was buried at Woodland Cemetery, London, OntarioG.3 He married in Carrington, NottinghamshireG, on 16 December 1908, Mary Keep.4,5,2 Mary was born in Headington, OxfordshireG, in 1884.2
     In 1891 Harry was living at 35 Sherwood Rise, Basford, NottinghamshireG, in the household of his parents Edward and Alice, and was recorded in the census as Harry L Sackett, aged six and born in Nottingham.6
     In 1901 he was living at 11 Burridge Road, Hyson Green, NottinghamG, in the household of his parents Edward and Alice, and was recorded as Harry L Sackett, a mechanical engineers' apprentice, aged 16.7
     Harry was an engineer in the merchant navy, serving in 1904 as seventh engineer and in 1905 as sixth and then fifth engineer on the 7,820-ton SS Persic on the Liverpool to Sydney, Australia, run. In 1908 he was third engineer on the 5,412-ton SS Tropic, again on the Liverpool–Sydney route.8,9,10,11,12,13,14
     In 1911 Harry was living at 12 Langham Avenue, Sefton Park, Liverpool, LancashireG, and was recorded in the census as Harry Leonard Sackett, a marine engineer, head of household, aged 26 and born in Nottingham. Living with him was his wife Mary, aged 28.15
