Calvin P Sackett, son of Calvin Pardee Sackett and Hannah Douglass, was born on 29 August 1812.1,2 He was baptized at the Presbyterian Church, Stephentown, Rensselaer County, New York StateG, on 3 June 1818.3,4 He married first in Stephentown, Rensselaer County, New York StateG, on 26 October 1830, Emiline Shaw, of Berlin, Rensselaer County. According to the Stephentown diarist, they were "highly amoured in both towns with horns and guns."5,6 He married second in StephentownG on 23 May 1838, Caroline Shaw, of Berlin, Rensselaer County, presumably a sister of his first wife Emiline.7,6
     Calvin was listed in the 1840 census as a householder in Berlin, Rensselaer CountyG.8

  6. Oramel A Sackett, Family Bible Records, marriage, "Calvin P. Sackett to Emeline Shaw, May 23, 1838." It is assumed that this bible record should have read "Caroline", not "Emeline" Shaw. There is a contradiction between the bible record and George Holcomb's diary records. It would seem likely that the diary records, written contemporaneously, and listing two marriages, would be the more accurate. It may have been the case that the bible records were made at a later date.
