Richard Johnson Sackett, son of Isaac Sackett and Mary Johnson, was born in Brooklyn, New York City, New York StateG, on 10 October 1838.1 He died aged 40 on 2 February 1879.1 He married in Latona, IllinoisG, on 1 May 1855, Matilda Tombs, daughter of Robert Tombs and Jane Small.1 Matilda was born in IrelandG in 18331,2 and died in 1902.1
     In 1850 Richard was living in Laona, Winnebago County, IllinoisG, in the household of his parents Isaac and Mary, and was recorded in the census as Richard S? Sackett, aged twelve and born in New York.3
[Richard] was born at Brooklyn, N. Y., but spent the greater part of his adult life in the state of Ohio. For several years he resided at Chicago and followed the occupation of traveling salesman. At one time he made a trip to Pike's Peak in an unsuccessful search for gold, but the last ten years of his life were spent on a farm at Latona, Ill.
