Dewitt Clinton Sackett, son of Austin Sackett and Charlotte Hayes, was born in Westfield, Hampden County, MassachusettsG, on 29 December 1845.1,2 He married in WestfieldG on 18 November 1896, Alice R (Boyce) Hoey, daughter of Lewis Boyce and Lavina Cannon.3 Alice was born in Suffield, Hartford County, ConnecticutG, in about 1851.4
     In 1870 Dewitt was living at Westfield, Hampden County, MassachusettsG, in the household of his parents Austin and Charlotte, and was recorded in the census as De Witt Sackett, a cigar maker, aged 24 and born in Massachusetts.5
