Richard Sackett, son of Alfred Sackett and Eliza Crideford, was born in Newton Abbot, DevonG, in 1889.1 He died aged 27 in BelgiumG on 4 October 1917.2,3 He married at Newton Abbot, DevonG, in 1916, Alice E Rendell.4,5 Alice married second at St Thomas, DevonG, in 1918, Frederick T Lawrence, by whom she had a daughter Joyce F in 1919.6,7,8

In 1911 he was living at 33 Teign StreetG in the household of his parents Alfred and Eliza, and was recorded as Richard Sackett, a house painter, aged 21 and born in Teignmouth.10
Richard Sackett served in the First World War in the First Battalion, Queen's Own (Royal West Kent Regiment). He was killed in action during the Third Battle of Ypres. He is commemorated on the family gravestone in Teignmouth Cemetery, DevonG.11
