Herbert Leonard Sackett, carman, son of Robert George Sackett and Emma Matilda Brown, was born in Margate, KentG, on 3 March 19001,2 and baptized at St John in ThanetG on 9 May 1900.2 He died aged 84 in Canterbury, KentG, in October 1984.3 He married at St Luke's Church, Ramsgate, KentG, on 2 August 1926, Bessie Irene Roberta Todd.4,5,6 Bessie was born on 16 March 1903 and died aged 80 in Thanet, KentG, in 1983.7
In 1901 Herbert was living at 28 Church Street, St John, Margate, KentG, and was recorded in the census as Herbert Sackett, aged one and born in Margate, the son of Robert Sackett.8
In 1911 he was living at 26 Grange Road, MargateG, in the household of his parents Robert and Emma, and was recorded as Herbert Leonard Sackett, a schoolboy, aged eleven and born in Margate.9
In 1921 he was living at 9 St Vincent Place, RamsgateG, in the household of his widowed mother Emma, and was recorded as Herbert L Sackett, a carman, aged 21.10
At the outbreak of the Second World War in September 1939, Herbert and Bessie were living at 3 Ann's Road, Ramsgate, KentG. Herbert was a public works contractor's labourer.11
