Ernest Henry Sackett, railwayman, son of William Sackett and Rachel Link, was born in Canterbury, KentG, on 2 September 18741,2 and baptized at St Mildred Church, CanterburyG, on 1 November 1874.3 He died aged 87 in Ashford, KentG, in 1962.4 He married at St Mildred, Canterbury, KentG, on 29 November 1902, Rosetta Paine.5,6 Rosetta was born in Camden Town, LondonG, on 24 June 18727,2 and died aged 70 at Cudworth Road, Willesborough, AshfordG, on 22 August 1942.8,9

In 1901 he was living at Gowan Cottage, Hereson Road, Ramsgate, KentG, and was recorded as Ernest Sackett, a gas fitter, single, aged 26. He was a boarder in the household of Sarah Harman, 68.12
In 1911 he was living at 4 Underdown Cottages, Wincheap Street, CanterburyG, and was recorded as Ernest Henry Sackett, brewers' drayman, head of household, aged 36 and born in Canterbury. Living with him were his wife Rosetta, 37, and their children, Ivy, 5, and Rose, aged three.13
Ernest joined the National Union of Railwaymen at Ashford, KentG, on 24 July 1913. He worked as a hammerman and as a striker on the South Eastern and Chatham Railway and later as a sawmill labourer on the Southern Railway.14
In 1921 he was living at 31 Cudworth Road, Willesborough, KentG, and was recorded as Ernest Henry Sackett, a railway wagon repairman, head of household, aged 46. Living with him were his wife Rosetta, 48, and their daughter Rosalie, aged 13.15
At the outbreak of the Second World War in September 1939, Ernest and Rosetta were living at 31 Cudworth Road, AshfordG. Ernest was a metal assistant.16
Ernest was granted administration on 31 October 1942 of his wife Rosetta's estate, valued at £95.17
