Walter Stephen Sackett, son of Stephen Sackett and Charlotte Grix, was born in Broadstairs, KentG, in 1869.1,2 He died there aged 30 in 19003,4 and was buried at St Peter in ThanetG on 8 January 1900.4 He married in ThanetG in 1891, Rosa Gertrude Gibbard, daughter of ___ Gibbard and ___ Kirby.5,6 Rosa was born in Banbury, OxfordshireG, in 1869.7 After Walter's death, Rosa married second in ThanetG in 1901, Arthur John Newing.8,9
In 1871 Walter was living at Maple House, High Street, BroadstairsG, in the household of his recently widowed mother Charlotte, and was recorded in the census as Walter Stephen Sackett, aged one and born in Broadstairs.10
In 1881 he was living at Maple House, High Street, BroadstairsG, in the household of his mother Charlotte and stepfather James Strong, and was recorded as Walter S Sackett, a scholar, aged 11 and born in Broadstairs.11
Walter joined the East Kent Regiment at Canterbury, KentG, on 24 January 1888. He signed on for six years but purchased his discharge after a year on 20 February 1889.12
In 1891 he was living at 25 York Street, St Peter's, BroadstairsG, and was recorded as Walter S Sackett, a porter, head of household, married, aged 21 and born in Broadstairs. Living with him was his wife Rose, also aged 21. They were living at the same address as Walter's mother Charlotte and stepfather James Strong.13
In 1901 Walter's widow was living at Gloucester Cottage, Oscar Road, Broadstairs, KentG, and was recorded as Gertrude R Sackett, head of household, a widow aged 30 and born in Banbury. She was a self-employed lodging house keeper. Living with her was their daughter Gertrude, aged four.14
In 1911 Rosa was living at Gloucester Cottage, Oscar RoadG, with her second husband Arthur Newing, two Newing children, and Rosa's daughter Gertrude Sackett, aged 14.15
