William George Sackett, son of William Francis Sackett and Elizabeth Ann Foord, was born in Broadstairs, KentG, in 1858.1,2 He died there aged 98 in 1957.3 He married in Lambeth, SurreyG, in 1888, Jane Woodward.4,5 She was born in about 1862 and died aged 39 in Thanet, KentG, in 1902.6
     In 1861 William was living at 4 Grays Cottages, Broadstairs, KentG, in the household of his parents William and Elizabeth, and was recorded in the census as Wm G Sackett, aged 2, and born in Broadstairs.7
     In 1871 he was living at 1 Thanet Road, Broadstairs, KentG, in the household of his parents William and Elizabeth, and was recorded as William G Sackett, a scholar, aged 11, and born in Broadstairs.8
     In 1881 he was living at 16 Smithfield, London, MiddlesexG, and was recorded as William Sackett, a clerk (servant), unmarried, aged 24, and born in Kent.
[The nature of this establishment is unclear. The building was occupied by 35 unmarried men, all described as servants & most as warehousemen or clerks.]9
     In 1901 he was living at 22 Burkets Lane, Sudbury, SuffolkG, and was recorded as William G Sackett, a gas fitter main & service layer, head of household, married, aged 42, and born in Broadstairs. Living with him were his wife Jane, aged 37, and born in Wantage, and their children, Dorothy (10), Jane (7), Isabel (5), and William (3).10
     In 1911 he was living at Hazeldene, Fullers Road, South Woodford, EssexG, and was recorded as William George Sackett, a caretaker and handyman, head of household, a widower, aged 52 and born in Broadstairs. Living with him were his daughter Dorothy, 20, and sister-in-law Ethel Woodward, aged 40.11

     In 1921 he was living at 98 Northdown Road, MargateG, and was recorded as William G Sackett, a self-employed gas and water fitter, head of household, a widower, aged 62. His sister-in-law
Ethel Woodward, 50, was also in the household.12
