James Henry Baylis and his father, James, travelled to Canada early in 1914 to look at buying land with a view to the family migrating there. When the war broke out they hurried home and James Henry enlisted. He served as a gunner in the front line trenches. The weather was so bad and the conditions so terrible that James started to cough badly. By the time he came home the TB had taken hold and he died of it in 1922.
