Although earlier research had suggested that Carol is a descendant in the line of Simon Sackett the colonist, her further research in 2017 has disproved a descent from a Sackett line. It had been concluded that Carol's ancestor Louise Caroline Martin (1813–1901) was a daughter of Lovicy Ray (1788–1865) by a Richard Martin, but this is now found to be incorrect. Carol writes, "The History of Ionia Co MI says that my ancestor Louisa Caroline Martin's mother was Lavina "Ray." This led me to Lovincey Ray, b. 1788 in Torrington, Conn, parents Timothy Ray and Lovincey Richards. That Lovincey was mother to Lousia Caroline Martin has been proved wrong by Timothy's will that has recently become available, where he mentions his daughter Lovincey "Root." As there were no other Lavina Ray's born at the right time anywhere in New England, it is easy to see how the error occurred. Once I realized I had the wrong person, I looked more closely at the death certificates of Lavina's children, Lousia and Melvin in MI. These give their mother's name as Lavina Lay and Lavina Leigh. I then found a reference to a Lovina Lay, baptized Jan 21, 1790 in Westbrook CT, who seems to be my ancestor. This connection has been proved by a DNA match to the person who posted the information."
