Laura J. Sackett
Heeding the gentle voice of the Good Shepherd, Laura Johanna (Schlicht) Sackett fell asleep in Jesus on Saturday, Sept. 4, 2004, and was taken to her heavenly reward at the age of 90.
Laura was born Feb. 24, 1914, to Frederick and Irene (Mundstock) Schlicht in Hamburg, rural Vernon County, Wis. Laura attended Hamburg Grade School and graduated from Central High School in La Crosse.
Laura was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Her family was greatly blessed by her Christian guidance, nurturing and care. She became a member of Mount Calvary Evangelical Lutheran Church, Wisconsin Synod, in 1946, where she had been a faithful and dedicated member until her death.
Laura was preceded in death by her parents, one sister, Viola Beitlich; and two brothers, Frederick Schlicht and Paul Lehrke.
She is survived by her son, Gary, of La Crosse; her daughter, Judith (Richard) Krueger of San Antonio, Texas; one sister, Esther Leisso, of Onalaska, Wis.; one brother, Walter Schlicht, of Viroqua, Wis.; and a sister-in-law, Vivian Schlicht. Laura also is survived by nine grandchildren, Wayne (Rachel) Sackett, Christine (Scott) White, Cynthia (Tim) Gerleman and Jon Sackett, all of La Crosse, Heather (Arturo) Garcia, Kimberly (Cory) Jefferies, Sarah, Darren and Derek Krueger, all of San Antonio; and 10 great-grandchildren.
A worship service, celebrating Laura's Christian life and entrance into the glory of eternal life, will be Thursday, Sept. 9, at 11 a.m. at Mount Calvary Evangelical Lutheran Church. The Rev. Robert Wasserman will officiate. Burial will take place in Mormon Coulee Memorial Park. Friends may call at the church Thursday from 10 a.m. until the time of services.
Memorials may be directed to Mount Calvary Evangelical Lutheran Church. Schumacher-Kish Funeral Home of La Crosse is assisting the family with arrangements.
