Welcome!

The first Sacketts to appear in the colonial records of America are Simon Sackett of Newtown of the Massachusetts Bay Colony from about 1630 to his death in 1635 and John Sackett of the New Haven Colony of Connecticut from 1641 to his death in 1684. As the descendants of the two men spread out prior to 1800, some who descended from each man were found living in some of the same localities. This mixing of the two lines has increased the difficulty of sorting and tracing the descendants of each man.

In 1907, when Charles Weygant published The Sacketts of America, it was the common belief that virtually all of the Sacketts in America descended from two brothers, John and Simon Sackett, who migrated to America from the Isle of Ely (in Cambridgeshire, England) in 1630. However, recent research has shown that Simon Sackett migrated from the Isle of Thanet, Kent, England.

And research of the records in England has cast doubt upon there being a brother relationship between Simon and John Sackett.

In 1999 the members of RootsWeb's Sackett mailing list initiated a project to update and correct the information found in Weygant's 1907 book and to add information for the lines which "daughtered out." This database is part of the update project and deals primarily with the Sacketts in America.

The Sackett Family Association was founded in September, 2003. The purpose of TSFA is to assist researchers as they "Research, Share and Preserve" their Sackett information. This database contains all the individuals named in Weygant's book with added information from the many researchers who have shared their research with us.

The Sackett story is far from complete. If you can add to the story, or correct our mistakes, or just have questions or comments about what you see, please feel free to contact us. We look forward to hearing from you.
