Thomas Sackett, shipwright of St Lawrence, Kent, son of William Sackett and Anne Ansell, was born in St Peter in Thanet, Kent, on 9 December 17771 and baptized at St Peter's Church on 25 December 1777.1 He died aged 79 in Hereson, St Lawrence in Thanet, Kent, on 30 August 18572,3,4 and was buried at the Ebenezer Independent Chapel, Ramsgate, on 3 September 1857.3 He was described in his will as a shipwright of Hereson, St Lawrence. The will was proved at Canterbury, Kent.4 He married first Sarah ___. He married second at St Lawrence Church on 17 June 1804, Mary Ansell.5 Mary was born in about 1778.6 She died aged 93 at Hereson on 23 February 18727,8 and was buried at the Ebenezer Independent Chapel on 29 February 1872.8
In 1841 Thomas was living at Hereson, St Lawrence, Kent, next door to his son Thomas and was recorded in the census as Thomas Sackett, a carpenter, aged 60 and born in Kent. Living with him were his wife Mary, also 60, and children, Mary, 30, Elizabeth, 20, and William, 19.9 [adult ages rounded down to nearest five years]
In 1851 he was living at Hereson, St Lawrence, and was recorded as Thomas Sackett, a shipwright, head of household, married, aged 73 and born at St Peter's, Kent. Living with him were his wife Mary, aged 72, born at St Lawrence, their daughter Elizabeth aged 32, and their granddaughter Rachel, aged 10.10 [The parents of the 10-year-old Rachel Sackett have not been identified. A record has not been found in the GRO indexes.]
In 1861 Thomas's widow Mary was living at Hereson, St Lawrence, Kent, and was recorded in the census as Mary Sackett, head of household, a widow, aged 82, house proprietor, born at St Lawrence, Kent. Living with her was her unmarried daughter Elizabeth, aged 42, a shop keeper, also born at St Lawrence.11
In 1871 she was living at Sackett Cottages, Hereson, St Lawrence, Kent, and was recorded as Mary Sackett, head of household, a widow, aged 92, and born in St Lawrence. Living with her was her unmarried daughter Elizabeth.12
