John made his will in 1588 St Nicholas at Wade, Thanet. Named among the beneficiaries were his wife Joan and his daughter Martha.1 The will also mentions Edward and Alice Emptage, two of Joan's children by her former marriage. John Sackett's will reveals him to have been a reasonably prosperous yeoman farmer, employing a number of staff. The present day value of the £60 left to his stepson Edward and to his son-in-law John Foorde is in excess of £10,000. He died in St Nicholas at Wade, Thanet, Kent, on 22 June 1588.5 His memorial5 at St Nicholas at Wade reads:

John's wife, Joan (___) Emptage would appear to have married a third time after John's death. She died on 6 January 1603/04 and her memorial4 inscription at St Nicholas at Wade reads:

  6. [S404] Despite the different names, Joan (Johan) and Jhane, it would appear that the Johan mentioned in John's will and the Jhane Knooler in the grave inscription were the same, and it is assumed that Johan/Jhane married a third time after John's death - although it is also possible that Knooler was her maiden name.
