Nicholas Fish, son of Jonathan Fish and Elizabeth Sackett, was born in New York City on 28 August 17581,2 and died there aged 74 on 20 June 1833.1,2 He married on 30 April 1803, Elizabeth Stuyvesant.1
Nicholas Fish served in the American Revolutionary War, being commissioned as a Lieutenant, with promotions to Major of the 2nd New York Regiment of the Line in November 1776, and to Lieutenant Colonel soon after. He fought in the battles of Saratoga (1777) and Monmouth (1778), and the Siege of Yorktown (1781) where he was a witness to the surrender of the British General Lord Cornwallis. In 1786 he was appointed Adjutant General of the State of New York.
