Francis George Sackett, son of Thomas Francis Sackett and Charlotte Pritchard, was born in Rotherhithe, Surrey, in 1850.1 He died aged 47 in St Olave Southwark, London, on 4 June 18972,3,4 and was buried at East London Cemetery.4 He married at St Saviour Southwark, Surrey, in 1876, Emma Parry.5,6 She was born in Alton, Hampshire, in 1848.7 She was possibly the Emma Sackett who died in St Olave Bermondsey, London in 1914.8
In 1851 Francis was living at 7 West Lane, Bermondsey, Surrey, and was recorded in the census as Francis Sackett, aged 11 months and born in Rotherhithe, son of Thos. Sackett.9
In 1861 he was living at 15 Pleasant Row, Bermondsey, Surrey, in the household of his father Thomas F Sackett, a shipwright, and was recorded as Francis Sackett, aged 10, a scholar, born in Rotherhithe.10
In 1881 he was living at 16 Mary Street, Rotherhithe, Surrey, and was recorded as Frank Sackett, head of household, married, aged 33, and born in Bermondsey, Surrey. He was a labourer in the chicory mills. Also in the household were his wife Emma, aged 33, born in Alton, Hampshire, and his son Henry, aged 11, and born in Rotherhithe.11
In 1891 he was living at 84 Adam Street, Rotherhithe, Surrey, and was recorded as Francis Sackett, a dock labourer (employed), head of household, married, aged 40, and born in Rotherhithe. Liivng with him were his wife Emma, aged 42, and their son Henry Sackett (22) and his wife (not named in the record). Also in the household were William Sackett (29), Alice Sackett (24), and Alice (2), described respectively as son, daughter, and granddaughter. The census record has a number of crossings out, including the words "nephew" and "wife" next to William's entry. It is likely that this William was the same as William Sackett who married Alice in Fulham in 1890 and who was, therefore, the son of Francis's fourth cousin John and his wife Ann ___. The "granddaughter" Alice would be Alice Jane Sackett born in Poplar in 1888.12
