Jeremiah Sackett, miller, missioner, and social worker, of Barham, Kent, son of Benjamin Sackett Cox and Mary Ann Cooper, was born in 1836. He was baptized at St Leonard's Wesleyan Church, Hyde, Kent, on 6 February 1837.1 He died in Bakewell, Derbyshire, in 1918.2 He married first at Elham, Kent, on 12 August 1861, Sarah File.3 She died aged 57 in Prestwich, Lancashire, in 1896.4 He married second Sarah's sister Ann Elizabeth File.
     In 1841 Jeremiah was living at Slade Street, St Leonard, Hythe, Kent, in the household of his parents Benjamin and Mary, and was recorded in the census as Jeremiah Sackett, aged five and born in Kent.5
     In 1851 he was living at 30 Slade Street, Hythe, Kent, and was recorded as Jeremiah Sackett, an errand boy, aged 14 and born in Hythe, son of Benjamin Sackett.6
     In 1861 he was living at 3 Breach Down, Barham, Kent, and was recorded as Jeremiah Sackett, aged 24, unmarried and born in Hythe, Kent, servant, miller & baker, in the household of Susanna File. Also in the household was Susanna's eighteen-year-old daughter Ann who was to become Jeremiah's second wife.7
     In 1891 he was living at 23 Bent Street, Cheetham, Manchester, Lancashire, and was recorded as Jeremiah Sackett, a local preacher (employed), head of household, married, aged 54, and born in Hythe, Kent. Living with him were his wife Sarah, aged 52, and born in New Jersey, and their children, Sarah (23), and Frank (14).8
