Elizabeth Sackett, daughter of Henry Sackett and Jane Stone, was born in Margate, Kent, in 18411 and baptized at St John's Church, Margate, on 11 July 1841.2 She married at Holy Trinity, Margate, on 8 December 1864, Edward Layng, a surgeon, son of John Layng.3,4 Edward died before 1881.
In 1851 Elizabeth was living at 2 West Northdown, Margate, in the household of her parents Henry and Jane, and was recorded in the census as Elizabeth Sackett, a scholar, aged 11 [actually 9], and born in Margate.5
In 1861 she was living at Farm House, St John's, Margate, in the household of her parents Henry and Jane, and was recorded as Elizabeth Sackett, aged 19, and born in Margate.6
In 1881 she was living at Sackett's Farm, St John's, Margate, in the household of her recently widowed father Henry, and was recorded as Elizabeth Layng, a widow, aged 39, and born in Margate.7
In 1891 she was living at Paragon Lodge, St Peter's, Kent, and was recorded as Elizabeth Tayling, head of household, a widow, aged 45, and born in Margate. Living with her was her widowed father Henry, aged 75. Also in the household was a female domestic servant.8
In 1901 she was living at Paragon Lodge, Crow Hill, in the household of her widowed father Henry, and was recorded as Elizabeth Layng, a widow, living on her own means, aged 59, and born at Northdown, Kent.9
