Benjamin Sackett Cox, miller and Wesleyan preacher of Hythe, Kent, son of Benjamin Sackett and Ann Cox, was born in St Lawrence in Thanet, Kent, on 4 July 1811.1,2 He was baptized at St Lawrence Church, Thanet, on 18 October 1811.2 He died aged 74 in Hythe, Elham, Kent, on 8 June 1885.3,4 He married first at St George, Ramsgate, in 1834, Mary Ann Cooper.5 Mary was born in about 1809. Mary died in childbirth aged 336 and was buried at Hythe on 17 November 1842.7 Benjamin married second in Elham in 1844, Lucy Lee.8 Lucy was born in about 18029 and died aged 65 in Elham in 1868.10,11 He married third in Elham on 25 December 1871, Emily Day.12 Emily was born in Hythe in about 183613 and died aged 84 in Elham in 1920.14
Benjamin's will, made at Hythe, Kent, was proved at Canterbury on 16 July 1885, the estate being valued at £645.15
In 1851 Benjamin was living at 30 Slade Street, Hythe, and was recorded in the census as Benjamin Sackett, head of household, a miller, aged 39 and born at St Lawrence, Kent. Living with him were his wife Lucy, and his sons, Benjamin (16), Jeremiah (14), and Jabez (10).16
In 1861 he was living at Slade Street, Hythe, and was recorded as Benjamin Sackett, head of household, a miller and Wesleyan local preacher, aged 49 and born in St Lawrence, Kent. Living with him was his wife Lucy, aged 59 and born in Bethersden. Also in the household was a 15-year-old house servant, Alice Shrubsole.17
In 1871 he was living at Slade Street, Hythe, and was recorded as Benjamin Sackett, a miller & Wesleyan preacher, head of household, a widower, aged 59, and born in St Lawrence.18
In 1881 he was living at Slade Street, St Leonard, Hythe, and was recorded as Benjamin Sackett, miller & Methodist local preacher, head of household, married, aged 69, and born in St Lawrence. Living with him was his third wife Emily, aged 45, and born in Hythe.19
In 1891 Benjamin's widow Emily was living at Slade Street, Hythe and was recorded as Emily Sackett, head of household, a widow living on her own means, aged 55, and born in Hythe.20
