Rufus Sackett, shoemaker of Northampton, Hampshire County, Massachusetts, son of Eliakim Sacket and Anna Edwards, was born on 3 January 1808.1,2 He died aged 66 in Northampton on 14 August 18751,2,3 and was buried in the Bridge Street Cemetery, Northampton.2 He married in about 1827, Frances Parsons, daughter of Seth Parsons and Rachel Wales.1,2 Frances was born in Northampton on 17 August 1809.2,4 She died aged 69 in Northampton on 17 February 1879.2,5,6
     Rufus made his will in Northampton, naming as beneficiaries his wife Frances, his sons Frederick, Rufus and George, and his daughters Louisa, Alice, Jerusha, Sarah, Josephine and Ella.7
     In 1870 Rufus was living in Northampton and was recorded in the census as Rufus Sackett, a boot and shoe manufacturer, aged 61, and born in Massachusetts. Living with him were his wife Frances, aged 60, and born in Massachusetts, and their daughters, Ella (21), and Alice (17).8
