Frederick Augustus Sackett, son of Samuel Sackett and Mary Bailey, was born in Thompson, Sullivan County, New York StateG, on 5 October 1815.1,2 He died aged 75 in Goshen, Orange County, New York StateG, on 18 February 1891.1,3 He was unmarried.
     In 1855 Frederick was living in New Windsor, Orange CountyG, and was recorded in the census as Fredrick A Sacket, a labourer, aged 39 and born in Sullivan County. Living with him were his mother Mary, 80, and sister Elizabeth M, 35 (this must have been sister Mary who was then 45.)4
     In 1875 he was living in New WindsorG and was recorded as Frederic Sackett, a tract peddler, aged 60, single. His sister Mary, 65, was living with him.5
     On 26 October 1876, Frederick was admitted to the Orange County Poor House, diagnosed with religious mania, a condition from which he was not expected to recover. His occupation was given as colporteur, i.e. a peddler of religious tracts. An assessment of the labor of which he was capable was "prayer, to an indefinite extent."6
