Caroline Emily Cock, daughter of Edward Cock and Mary Serjeant Tomlin Sackett, was born in Dover, KentG, in 1849.1 She married Thomas Shephard, son of Lucy ___. Thomas was born in Ipswich, SuffolkG, in about 1846.2
     In 1851 Caroline was living at 118 Snargate Street, St Mary, DoverG, in the household of her parents Edward and Mary, and was recorded in the census as Caroline Emily Cock, aged one and born in Dover.3
     In 1891 she was living at 1 Darnley Terrace, Gravesend, KentG, in the household of her husband Thomas Holt Shepherd, 44, a station master, and was recorded as Caroline Emily Shepherd, aged 41 and born in Dover. Living with them were their children, Philip, 18, and Helen, 14, and Caroline's unmarried aunt Sarah Ann Sackett, 73.4
     In 1901 she was living at Railway Station House, Sittingbourne, KentG, in the household of her husband Thomas, 54, station master, and was recorded as Caroline E Shephard, aged 51 and born in Dover. Living with them were their unmarried daughter Helen, 24, Thomas's widowed mother Lucy Shephard, 79, and Caroline's unmarried aunt Sarah A Sackett, 83. Also in the household was a female domestic servant.5
